Why I left Xfire, and moved to Evolve

There were many things that led up to me leaving the XFGM team, and Xfire as a whole.

Reasons for initially leaving the XFGM team:

  1. I hadn’t contributed in a very long time
  2. Nothing ever happens, things take forever to get approved
  3. When things need to be fixed in the client, or their system it’s self, it never happens.
  4. Several members seem very cocky and act like they know what they are talking about when really they barely know how to write game definitions.
  5. Pretty much anyone and their mother can apply and be accepted.
  6. Getting in lets the members think they are in “an elite group of individuals that is better than everyone else”

Leaving Xfire as a whole:

  1. lol titan
  2. Two updates in one year? Come on, get with it.
  3. Website and client are dated
  4. False hope, empty promises
  5. The community is shit
  6. No developer-user communication

Why I moved to Evolve:

  1. Built-in Hamachi-like virtual network with parties? Aww yeah.
  2. Support for more IM protocols
  3. Awesome community
  4. Modern looking client and website
  5. Will eventually get an SDK for in-game widgets
  6. Awesome plans for future updates
  7. Updates to the client AND the site regularly
  8. Great communication between developers and users

I made my choice, how about you?

Free invites!

UPDATE: To any Xfire staff reading this, that are pissed off at me, I am only posting facts. If you don’t like it, then why don’t you do something about the things I pointed out? Otherwise, you have no room to say anything.

Livestream Account Sniffer Released

image

This is something I’ve been working on for the last couple days, mostly as an experiment to learn how WinPcap (which you need installed to use this program) works. It supports both Xfire and Procaster.

There’s not much really to explain about it, but this is how you use it:

  1. If you are sniffing from Procaster, close it first
  2. You open up the app, and click “Listen”
  3. If you are using Procaster, then just start it up and log in, if you are using Xfire, then start broadcasting in a game that Xfire supports
  4. After a few seconds (it takes a while for it to process all the packets), it will finds your account

You can download it here.

Enjoy :)

Xfire Update 1.133

Yesterday, Xfire released an update that basically did nothing but add a buggy “anti-spam” feature. It would be a good thing in theory, but its implementation is absolutely god awful.

How to get your Xfire Livestream password

This tutorial will show you how to get the password of your Xfire’s Livestream account. This is awesome, because you can then use the password to log into your xfire_* Livestream account with Procaster, so you can broadcast things that you couldn’t with Xfire.

Now, let’s begin…
